OMRON ROBOT XG SERIES AND X SERIES: THE SCARA ROBOT RELIABLE AND FLEXIBLE

The large working area and the high capacity of the Omron X and XG series robots allow you to choose the type of SCARA robot that is perfect for your applications. Special models are available, for example for clean room and splash and dust proof, which can be installed in harsh environments such as those found in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
The high reliability of the Omron X and XG series robots is guaranteed by the simple mechanical structure of the SCARA robots that use a beltless system in the XG series through a direct coupling between motors, gears, arms and shafts.

SCARA and Omron type X series robots

Omron X series and Omron XG series are SCARA robots. The SCARA robot is a type of industrial robot with a rather simple structure, characterized by 4 joints with vertical axis. The arm of the SCARA robot – consisting of two rigid elements called links – moves on a horizontal plane, while vertical movement is ensured by a third element connected by prismatic coupling. A further rotoidal coupling is sometimes present to allow rotation of the gripper around its axis.

Characteristics of SCARA robots such as Omron X series are high reliability, precision and speed, minimal maintenance, ease of use and extremely compact design. The main point of interest of a SCARA robot is the vertical handling force, in fact, to lift a piece the movement takes place on a single axis, simplifying the structure to the full advantage of reliability.

The abbreviation SCARA is an acronym that derives from the English “Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm”, whose meaning is “assembly robot arm with selective flexibility”. There is talk of selective flexibility because the gripper can move slightly – if forced – in the horizontal plane but not in the vertical one.
